Why choose a spiritual coach over a life coach?

For me there are two parts to this answer - the first focuses on why you might want to choose spiritual coaching rather than life coaching and the second relates to why you would choose spiritual coaching specifically.

So why not just choose a life coach? Well obviously you can and there’s nothing wrong with that choice! A spiritual coach is a type of life coach, just more niche. And everyone has their own perspective on what their work involves so let me give you mine:

I am here to help you reconnect with yourself. YES we might work towards tangible goals but rather than focusing on ‘achievement’ we first need to get clear on what goals might actually be right for you and what you want at a soul level. You might feel like something is missing - maybe you don’t feel fulfilled, or you’ve already achieved the goals you had but they haven’t brought you joy. Our focus together involves helping you get back to yourself and what makes you feel alive, working out what a fulfilling like would look like for you before we start trying to actually make changes! That’s very brief but for the purpose of this article we will leave if there so we can move on to the second part of the answer!

And actually this second part can also be split into two halves… So why a spiritual coach specifically? Why not a transformational coach (actually some elements of that are definitely relevant here!) or an empowerment coach or a mindset coach? Firstly because I believe our spiritual connection is at the root of everything we do, regardless of our religion or whether we are in fact religious at all. Every moment of our lives we are either connected or disconnected from that flow to varying degrees. The truth is we can never be truly disconnected from it, it’s more a question of being out of tune with it. And that level of connection or flow determines how well our life tends to go… When we ignore that deeper part of ourselves that knows we’re choosing something that wasn’t meant for us or we’re lacking balance in our life we feel the negative effects. Therefore whatever change we want to make, whichever area of our life we want to be different, we inevitably have to come back to ourselves first.

Secondly, the experience of working with a spiritual coach is quite different. Of course there’s deep conversation and we look at your habits, your desires, your values. But we also use techniques like meditation, visualisation, mindfulness and scripting. Which makes our time together dynamic and varied. While a life coach might focus on what needs to change on the outside, together we would focus on what needs to change within first. Deep transformation is not only about the life you build but the person you become.
